Free data, sorted for small business.

What’s inside

Everything in one vault.

I

APIs

One note per API: key or no key, HTTPS, browser-friendly or not, its link check and what it’s good for.

II

Datasets

One note per public dataset, by topic, with its link check.

III

Business uses

Seven lists read through by hand: find customers, market research, real estate, food and drink, finance data, content and SEO, selling online.

IV

Starting points

Hand-picked sources at the top of every list, for when you don’t know where to begin.

V

6 recipes

Find local customers, research a market before you open, real estate numbers, an app demo with no-key APIs, and more.

VI

10 source guides

OpenStreetMap, data.gov, FRED, OpenAlex, GDELT, Open Food Facts and more: what each is, uses, an example, limits and credit lines.

VII

Templates

An API trial log and a data project brief, with filled-in fictional examples.

VIII

Never store keys here

Record where a key lives, never the key itself.

A closer look

Real screens from the vault.

The entries are real APIs and datasets, as checked on 2026-10-13. The project and trial examples are fictional.

How it works

Three steps, about five minutes.

  1. Buy and download. You get a ZIP right after checkout. Keep the page: the link works for 12 months of updates.
  2. Open it in Obsidian. Install the free app, choose “Open folder as vault” and pick the folder.
  3. Start at Home. Read “Start Here”, then pick a recipe or open the Starting points.
Built to last

No plugins. No lock-in.

  • Only Obsidian’s built-in features, so it works with Restricted mode on and survives updates
  • Plain Markdown files you own and can open with any app
  • Works on your phone the same as on your computer
  • Start Here guide, cheat sheets, and fictional samples to learn from
  • Made by Golden Rock, a technology partner in San Antonio

Questions

Straight answers.

What is Obsidian?

A free note-taking app for Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android. Your notes are plain files on your own device, not in someone else’s database. Get it at obsidian.md.

Do I need plugins or coding?

No. Everything uses Obsidian’s built-in features (Bases, templates, daily notes), so it works with Restricted mode on, works on your phone, and keeps working when Obsidian updates.

What exactly do I get?

A ZIP with the complete vault: templates, ready-made views, guides, and fictional sample data you can clear from one list. Open the folder in Obsidian and the Home page appears.

Where does the data come from?

Two open lists on GitHub, public-apis and awesome-public-datasets, both MIT licensed; their notices are in the vault. We added the link check (2026-10-13), the business-use sorting, the views, the recipes and the source guides.

Do the APIs cost anything?

Many are free and some need a free key or account; the notes say which. Each provider sets its own terms, limits and credit lines, so read them before you build on a source.

Can I change it?

Yes, all of it. Rename statuses, add fields, delete what you don’t need. It’s yours to keep.

What if it isn’t right for me?

Email us within 14 days of buying and we’ll refund you. No form, no argument.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Use any sync you like (Obsidian Sync, iCloud or a free option); a guide inside compares them.

Is my data private?

Yes. The vault runs on your devices and we never see your notes. It’s designed to never hold passwords or ID numbers.

Do I get updates?

Yes, free for 12 months: re-download from the link on your purchase page.
