Questions

Plainly answered.

This product uses the FRED® API but is not endorsed or certified by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

This product uses the Census Bureau Data API but is not endorsed or certified by the Census Bureau.

Where does the data come from?

Public sources: the U.S. Census Bureau (County Business Patterns and the American Community Survey), the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau through the St. Louis Fed’s FRED service. Every source is listed in the report.

How current is it?

The Census publishes business counts a few years after the fact; the report uses the newest year available and says which year each number is from. The local jobs numbers are usually a month or two old.

Does it list my competitors by name?

It counts them. Where the open map has them, it can show some business names, but it never points out which business is missing a website, and it has no phone numbers or addresses.

What do I tell you when I order?

Your trade and your city and state, or your ZIP code. That’s all we need to make your report.

How do I get it?

By email, as a PDF, within 2 business days.

What if there’s no data for my area?

If we can’t make a report for your area (for example, the Census has no count for your trade in your county), we refund you in full.

Can I get it again later?

Want it again next year when new Census numbers come out? Just ask.
